Karla Spetic has worked with The Alice Springs Beanie Festival to create 10 limited edition beanies.
One of the beanies featured in Spetic’s new collection that was unveiled on the runway at Rosemount Australian Fashion Week in Sydney last month. Based on Karla’s design, the remaining nine beanies were made by members of the Alice Springs Beanie Festival committee.
The dramatic landscapes of the Northern Territory’s Red Centre led to the unique collaboration between Spetic, Tourism NT and the festival. Spetic drew inspiration from the raw, Australian landscape and the contrasts that occur across the landscapes.
From Spetic’s perspective, the collection “evolved from a mere turn of inspiration of the colours of central and northern Australia to a point where I felt involving the skilled artisans from the Beanie Festival would provide the perfect addition to my collection”.
Five of the ten limited edition beanies designed by Spetic are available to purchase via a silent auction at the Australian Beanie Festival from June 25 to 28, with the other five in black, nude and pink to be sold on eBay with proceeds to go to Red Dust Role Models.
